Leopard Support

26. Oct 2007 Comments 28 comments

I would like to kindly inform all users that InsomniaX is currently broken in leopard, and i would like people to respect that it will take some time to fix up for leopard…

I would also like to remind everyone that i only make these applications for the kindness of my heart and do not get paid to make them, the only money i make is from donations which only rarely come along

Update:
Some success in fixing leopard support, however i have run into troubles with C programming and the use of AuthTool if anyone is skilled in these areas please contact me to fix this problem.

Update 2:
Thanks to the help of mateos, we now have a working solution for InsomniaX and Leopard, however at the moment it is not complete so i DO NOT want this PUBLISHED on any mirrors.

I REPEAT DO NOT PUBLISH THIS ON SITES LIKE MACUPDATE AND VERSIONTRACKER!!!!

If you use this build please report on success on any OSX you use
DOWNLOAD - HIBERNATION DOES NOT WORK

Update 1/11/07:
I have managed to complete the core repairs and InsomniaX should be functionally 90% on 10.3/10.4/10.5 however it is still missing display sleep on 10.5 and the ability to install safesleep/hibernation on machines has been removed due to security risks.

I REPEAT DO NOT PUBLISH THIS ON SITES LIKE MACUPDATE AND VERSIONTRACKER!!!!

If you use this build please report on success on any OSX you use

Is there any alternative app in the meantime for not allowin the mac to go to sleep when you close the lid?? I’m definately looking forward to the newest InsomniaX for Leopard.

I believe the legacy versions should work

  3. foobar wrote on 27. Oct 2007

Yep, it works on my release version leopard box. Not as good as what you brewed up for tiger, but gets the job done. Thanks!

  4. foobar wrote on 27. Oct 2007

Also, by the way, InsomniaX says its licensed under GPL, but I can’t find the source anywhere. Does anyone know where I can get it?

  5. semaja2.net wrote on 27. Oct 2007

The Insomnia KEXT is open source but the application is no longer licensed under GPL, this note in the application is left over that im yet to change.

The code was taken out of GPL because it was too much effort to keep a up to date source code on the website and everyone complained, however people can still obtain it from me in a GPL type licence

What do you mean by that “Hibernation does not work” ? It won’t hibernate at all if I deactivate insomnia x via shortcut key.

  7. Lazlow wrote on 30. Oct 2007

I’m still getting the same error window in Leopard that I got when I tried to load the Tiger version:

I deleted the old InsomniaX.app, but are there any remnants of the old version still lurking around that need to be deleted too?

I am using the experimental build of insomniax on Leopard 9a581, It keeps the machine awake but unlike the tiger version it leaves the screen lit up. But thanks for the hard work in suporting leopard :)

  9. Andrew wrote on 30. Oct 2007

Yup, works great on Leopard Final, but screen stays lit. All in all great update. Thanks a lot.

  10. Michael wrote on 30. Oct 2007

I’m also getting the same message as Lazlow when trying to run the ‘experimental version’ in Leopard (full retail box). Although ‘top’ shows InsomniaX has stalled in the background and I have to kill it with the terminal.

    757 InsomniaX 0.0% 0:00.14 2 95 134 1608K 8240K 5456K 229M

Is there a crash log or something I could send that might help?

    Cheers!

Great update, I’ve been looking all around for this :P. Thanks much. :)

    Sorry for double posting.
I got the same problem with the lit screen but besides the app works fine for me on 9A581 (update from tiger). thanks alot.

When i refer to the Hibernation, i refer to the menu item to control hibernation.

Can people please email me the log files of InsomniaX.log to logs(at)semaja2.net

Also i am flooded with support on the blog, so please try the help desk as i can see all the unanswered messages.

You update 2 works fine for me on leopard. Atleast sleep works perfectly fine.

  15. Lazlow wrote on 02. Nov 2007

I’m getting “InsomniaX failed to start” when I tried upgrading to the version in update #3, and now update #2 won’t work either. Restarting didn’t fix anything either.

Sorry for the repost, but I wanted to say it here too. That icon needs an update. Or at the very least an option to be an all black silouette. More than ever with Leopard, that bright blue cartoon face really ruins the asthetics of a very classy OS.

(BTW, I would prefer a more subtle icon than that face. But if people like the cartoon face that much then may I suggest just the eyebrows or something simple like that?)

Glad to have some (limited) support for Leopard! Seems to be working, apart from the fact that the screen now stays on even with the lid closed (as mentioned above).

    Keep up the good work!

  19. Gabe wrote on 03. Nov 2007

i tried both of the versions on this page and both say that Insomnia failed to load. the legacy version works. but of course it’s not as nice as the new one. and i liked in Tiger with the new one how it would turn the screen off when you closed the lid. let me know what the status is!

good work though, all in all

  20. Mrr.Dolan wrote on 03. Nov 2007

Yeah, I’m experiencing the same problem. The two updated versions don’t work (failed to load) but the legacy version works fine. Not sure what the problem with that is. Now when I try to quit the version that doesn’t work, it says it’s open and can’t close, so I can’t quit it until I restart. =\

  21. Farhaan wrote on 04. Nov 2007

On leopard it keeps saying failed 2 load, i tries all three revisions.

  22. tehrob wrote on 05. Nov 2007

The one problem I have with the legacy version is when playing WoW or actually just trying to keep the mouse buttn depressed for more than 15 seconds. It seems that an artificial click or something similar is imposed when running the .5 version of insomniaX.

Does not appen with the current version, and with the new “removal” instructions posted, the newest 1.3.3 version seems to be working perfectly.

    THANKS!

Hey thanks for the updates to InsomniaX - this feature really should be built into OSX but I guess I’m preaching to the choir here…

    Keep up the good work!

  24. illegallydead wrote on 13. Nov 2007

I am using the version you posted above, and it seems to work most of the time. However, I seem to be noticing that when insomnia is activated, it will stay activated for about 30 seconds, then will take the focus from the active window and shut insomnia off. Thought you’d like to know; definitely like the program when it works…

  25. Mark wrote on 15. Nov 2007

Insomniax 1.3.3 is working for me on Mac OS 10.5 Leopard! Unfortunately, as documented, the display sleep does not work automatically, and must be set manually before closing the lid. Please keep up the great work!

  26. Mark wrote on 15. Nov 2007

    Additionally, I should clarify - it’s a Macbook Pro 2.33 ghz

  27. samu wrote on 10. Dec 2007

About the lit-screen issue; I’ve found that if I send my displays to sleep using a hot corner while my MacBook Pro is closed, and then move the mouse, only my external display wakes up again. The MBP’s own screen stays dark. This is more convenient than some other workarounds, because all that is required is a sweep of the mouse into a particular corner and then back out again.

    Hope someone finds this useful.

just two comments on 10.5 usage:

    - display sleep is missing (but timeout from general system settings works fine)
    - it would be nice to insomnia unload automatically when battery is going low (if you do not unload it manually, system suddeny is going off - no sleep, no hibernation which is annoying)
