Insomnia updated for 64bit machines!

31. May 2011 Comments 24 comments

Alright ALRIGHT!!! I’ve come out of retirement for a bit and built the Insomnia_r6.kext file for 64bit machines!

This kext is only for 10.6 and Intel 32/64bit, it has been tested on a MacBookPro 15″ i7 QC 2.0Ghz and that is all. SO PLEASE PROCEED WITH CAUTION!!!

If enough support / donations are received I may look into recompiling all of InsomniaX but no promises.

Download

Installation:

  1. Quit InsomniaX
  2. Delete ~/Library/Application Support/InsomniaX/
  3. Open the contents of InsomniaX.app (Right Click > Show Contents)
  4. Goto Contents / Resources
  5. Delete Insomnia_r6.kext
  6. Download and extract the new Insomnia_r6.kext
  7. Copy the new Insomnia_r6.kext into /Applications/InsomniaX.app/Contents/Resources/
  8. Open InsomniaX
  9. See how it goes!

    great this worked for me.
i have the new MBP A1286 and only after applying this fix insomniac worked again.

    thanks, stephan.

    something else I am noticing.
i am using a matrox dualhead2go, which works fine with the lid open. but when i restart the mbp with the lid closed the matrox attached to the mini-display port does not seem to be recognized.

MBP is running though, i can remote desktop to it.

not sure if that is something that could be changed with an insomniax fix ?

    thanks, stephan.

Did any one tried the current version on Lion?
It would be nice that it could be compatible if Lion.

    Thanks, Stephan!

Under HDD->Library-> Application support, there is no inSomiax folder… ?

Anyone know how I can find it?

Doesn’t work with Lion on the Macbook Air 2011 refresh. Would be nice if someone could find a workaround to this as I really love this program!

Scratch that, this fix works perfectly! For those of you that are wondering how I got it to work, on step 2 where it says delete ~/Library/Application Support/InsomniaX/ instead, go to /Users/YourUserName/Library/Application Support/InsomniaX/ and follow the steps from there. Worked like a charm!

Hmm, weird. After rebooting it stopped working altogether now. Guess we just have to wait for admin to create a new version. :(

  14. Will wrote on 24. Jul 2011

    ViciouS -> I don’t have a Library-folder in that location, only under HDD -> Library, not HDD->Users->My user->???.

  15. ViciouS wrote on 24. Jul 2011

How weird, after a couple restarts it started working and shows up in the top toolbar as well. As long as it works, I’m not complaining though LoL.

@Will: Use Spotlight and look for any InsomniaX folder and try deleting it and follow the steps as listed above. If all goes well, it should start working for you too.

Still not working with Lion :(

Works fine with Lion for me. Thanks a lot! I’ll donate something.

  18. Anton wrote on 27. Jul 2011

Nice one! this update made it work on lion for me as well :)

  19. Jayson wrote on 28. Jul 2011

Awesome, replacing the kext in ~/Library worked for me, too.

I only use InsomniaX occasionally, but those times when I DO need it, it’s absolutely essential!

I too will contribute to the donation bin!

This kext tested and working on Lion on a MBP i7.

You have to unhide your User’s Library in Lion. Google it.

    FYI, the ‘~’ means /users/YOURNAME/

Im getting KP on Lion installing this kext.

Late 2010 13 in MBA with Lion upgrade. Had to unhide User library, then could delete folder in Application Support. Deleted old kext, copied in the new kext and InsomniaX works fine. Yahoo!
