After the long years of waiting, I give you a final update to InsomniaX.
Some may regard this release as a backwards step but in many ways its a step forward, as the original version had many work arounds added for various reasons as well as other bloat that was no longer maintained. But in this version I aimed to build only for OSX Lion which also means its only built for the latest Macs (anything with an Intel 64bit processor).
Whilst limited testing has been conducted, please once again use at your own risk and support may not be provided due to the limited time available to me. If you want support please post in this post and help each other out!
Also this is a 2.0 release which means its got a lot of rough corners and bugs, so please point out any that you find and I’ll try to release a 2.1 release.
PS. This was supposed to be released with Lion however I recently just moved and still do not have internet access at home, however anyone willing to donate random bits and pieces from their countries or some house warming gifts are always welcome and if you wish to please comment on this post and ill contact you with further details

i have a brand new 15 MBP running lion and it works great! i use it when i play movies on my 50 inch and was tired of having to leave the lid open. thanks for your work
Im still getting KP on Lion everytime the kexts loads
@Harold
Please use a real email address so I can directly communicate.
What machine are you using?
ooopps, sorry about the email add…
Im on MacPro. Used to use your old version running Snow just to keep it from sleep. Since i upgraded to Lion, it no longer working. Everytime i launch the InsomniaX App, i get KP reagrding insomnia kext
To follow my post….
MacPro Intel Xeon. I can disable sleep by setting System Preference > Energy Saver to NEVER.
But i also want to disable sleep if i accidentally press the “Apple Logo > Sleep” function.
The older version used to do this, but in Lion, i cant really tell cause im getting KP.
Thank You and a little donation is not that hard for a wonderfull program like this .
@Harold
Unfortunately the Insomnia r7 release won’t actually do what your looking for anymore due to it being more focused on the lid sleep action then just sleep events.
This is why you will notice it is now “Disable/Enable Lid Sleep” and “Disable/Enable Idle Sleep”
I might be able to recode you a specific Insomnia release for your purpose, but if more people request this I may recode InsomniaX to determine which one to use.
Brilliant! Thanks for all your hard work, this is a great app.
#1, You have NO clue on how useful InsomniaX is. This should be a default feature somewhere in OS X. Thank you!
#2, Upgraded to v2.0 running on Lion. Unfortunately, it does not work. Not sure what you need to debug, troubleshoot.
Environment:
MacBook, 13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008. 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, and of course on Lion.
I haven’t tried the new one. I remember that updating from 1.3.3 to 1.3.5 wrecked my system (had to go back to 1.3.3) and that with a clean install 1.3.5 now everything works ok so… I’m seriously thinking about not updating until I really really need to (if it’s not broken, don’t fix it).
[Update]
Hi all,
Initially had problems with V2.0 This is how I got it working.
If you have a previous version installed, this is what you need to do:
0. Drag InsomniaX to the Trash
1. Reboot the machine
2. Ensure InsomniaX is not running
3. Enter in terminal : defaults delete com.semaja2.InsomniaX
4. Delete ~/Application Support/InsomniaX
5. Delete /Applications/InsomniaX.app
6. Reinstall
Thanks to Andrew’s guidance as well. Cheers!
@Edwinder
Minor correction in step 4 it should be ~/Library/Application Support/InsomniaX
The new InsomniaX works perfect on my i7 MBP running lion. I love that the display sleeps itself now too! One question though, is there any way to add a shortcut to enable/disable no-sleep mode? I had it set up in the old preferences, but cant find it it 2.0
P.S. I found that using an uninstaller application (such as TrashMe) to get rid of the old instillation worked flawlessly
It works! Nice!
However, the old menubar icon way bad ass. Can we get it back?
This is definitely a feature that should be integrated into the core OS features! I’ve used InsomniaX for a year or so now, but unfortunately after the upgrade to Lion it absolutely refuses to work. I’ve taken the appropriate troubleshooting steps listed above, but alas, when I close the lid on my 2010 i7 MBP, it sleeps every time. I had InsomniaT installed as a temporary measure, but I deleted it before I updated to the current InsomniaX.
Whoahwhoawhoah, back the frick up. I used this script (http://goo.gl/St0iF) to completely unistall InsomniaT, as I didn’t think to do so before I updated to InsomniaX 2.0. I resarted, now InsomniaX works flawlessly. Thanks for your hard work, semaja2!
Is there still a hotkey in this version?
@Steven
The hotkey was removed due to the library used being out of date and not updated, however it does seem like there is quite a demand for it so I will aim to add it back in 2.1
Works perfectly for me! ^^
2010 15 inch i5 MBP
Mac OS X 10.7
I have had a developer copy of Lion for quite some time and have been waiting for this update! Using my macbook without InsomniaX just isn’t the same. Thanks for keeping this up to date, your work is much appreciated!
Hi Guys – thank for great job. Just one quick question, did we lost hotkey functionality in InsomniaX?
@Filemoon
Please read the messages on this page as you will find out that yes it has been removed, but will be added back in 2.1
semaja2 – thanks
Your product is great.
If i close my brandnew MacBook Air (2011, incl. Lion), the MBA goes in the stand-by modus. Any ideas?
Works fine on my MBP 2010 with Lion.
However, I’m not sure the new icon is ideal. It’s not obvious enough whether sleep disable is activated or not. I just didn’t notice, closed my laptop and put it into it’s bag, and it nearly overheated inside there because sleep disable was active.
The old icon made that more visible.
This is an amazing tool, you can’t imagine how happy I was when I discovered that you updated it for Lion.
Thanks
I installed on my macbook air (liked old version), it doesnt work, I close the lid and it still goes into sleep. Also, the options, e.g. “enable on AC” etc, are not available on the menu, yet I see them listed in the user documentation. I’m about to go back to Sleepless, which I like less because it does not have enable on AC function. Help appreciated.
I tried the new version on my Mid 2009 Macbook Pro 15″, but it didn’t work quite for my purpose.
Example:
1. Click on disable Lid sleep and start watching a movie for instance. Then close the lid.
The notebook doesn’t fall asleep, in most cases.
2. Do the same as before, just put the movie player in fullscreen and then close the lid.
The notebook falls in standby mode immediately.
Could the new functionality “When lid is closed screen will now sleep as well” be a reason? My connected screen is always synced with the one on my notebook, so when it goes asleep, there’s nothing to sync. Or am a misunderstanding something?
I also find the two options very confusing. I’d prefer the old way (one menu option to disable sleep: enable/disable)
Thank you for the updated version and the hard work, but I’d stay with the old one for now, as it is working flawless for me.
I was just wondering.. if you don’t feel like updating this tool any more, (this being the final update) why don’t you make it open source? I am sure that someone would love to pick it up and keep InsomniaX alive.
Hey, I love the idea of the program, and usually it works for me perfectly, until I manually put my (13 inch i5) MBP to sleep. It stops working after each time I do that, and I was wondering what I should do. Thanks!
Hey, I love the idea of the program, and usually it works for me perfectly, until I manually put my (13 inch i5) MBP to sleep. It stops working after each time I do that, and I was wondering what I should do. Thanks a lot!
I am very grateful for this new version, and seems a lot less buggy due to the sleep display function working. I have noticed one little bug which I imagine would not usually be apparent.
As I often run my MBP in clamshell mode attached to an external display when I was playing with the app, I disabled lid sleep however when I re-enabled lid sleep, even though the external monitor was connected it immediately went to sleep.
Usually when I use this app the laptop is obviously not connected to the external screen so its not a problem.
Cool app though.
Great App and Thanks for the Leon support! Couple of questions I have not found any answers:
1) Should there be ~/Library/Application Support/InsomniaX and com.semaja2.InsomniaX with this 2.0 Leon version? I do not have, but App is still working…
2) Should Enable Lid Sleep / Idle Sleep stay that way also, when e.g. restarted? Its not working at least for me, but could it be? It would be great if InsomniaX would remember it’s status / configuration with reboot/restart or power failure.
rgds,
Jukka
Insomniax 2.0 seems to work perfectly in most cases, however i found one problem. I use TeamViewer to remotely access my macbook pro. However, a couple seconds after connecting to my computer, InsomniaX stops working and the computer goes to sleep. Could this be an issue with remote desktoping?
InsomniaX is so close to what I’m looking for, but it’s missing one feature I really need. I have my Windows machines set to sleep when I close the lid when running on battery, but not sleep when I close the lid on AC power. That way they’ll continue to update synchronized files, download email, etc. when they have a continuous power source, but sleep when constant power isn’t available.
This technique works very well, but I really miss this functionality on my new Air (Lion). But it doesn’t look like InsomniaX 2.0 can do this. Is this something that is planned for the future? If so, a nice donation is on the way.
THANK YOU SO MUCH! I love the new moon icon too! works great! I like that the screen turns off when closed and relights when opened.
@Phil
There appears to be a issue with the MBA, and since I do not have hands on access to a MBA I can not give any idea of a time frame to fix
@Maik
It’s funny how everyone complains about the icons, then theres some that still liked the old ones, if you wish to get the old ones back open the old and the new and you should find the png files to change
@BKing
As mentioned above, there appears to be a issue with the MBA not accepting the commands, as for the AC option I will be reimplementing however due to the rush to push this out many options were stripped but will be added once ready. That being said your more then welcome to use the older versions
@Sataka
I will investigate this issue with full screen videos etc, is this only when a external monitor is attached? also the 2 options were split because for me I like to be able to quickly disable idle sleep but I rarely disable lid sleep, also many people complained when the display didn’t sleep when the lid closed so this was the best solution
@Chris
I did open source once but no one really takes notice, if someone actually committed to maintaining the project properly I would hand over the new source code
@Shafqar
I will investigate this issue, but I never tested this scenario…
@Richard
This would be a bug, as I tried to make sure that if the system disabled Insomnia one way or another it would sleep the system if the lid was closed, I will see if theres a way to detect a external monitor and avoid this
@Jukka
Those files are still there but are hidden in Lion due to Apples wisdom, however I do agree with the saved states etc and I will try to implement in the future
@Peter Russo
I will investigate this issue and see what I can find
@Doug Johnson
This is a feature in 1.3.5 and I intend to add it back to 2.0
@Bob
Thanks
@Everyone
Now hopefully that covers everyone
I’m with Doug – glad to hear that disabling sleepless on battery will come back some day.
Anyway, use my laptop as a music player over night, and with my house full of cats, the keyboard must be protected. This made my day.
PS. If you’re thinking about Sleepless on Lion, be careful. It had odd consequences, and changed my sleep mode too.
Every time you open Insomniax it is on, so e.g. reboot = you have to manually disable Insomniax, which is rather annoying. Any solution to this?
I installed the new InsomniaX from Cnet but it’s not working for me. When I select “Disable lid sleep” nothing happens, the icon and label text do not change, and when I close the lid it sleeps.
I can select “Disable Idle Sleep” and it changes the icon and the item text changes to “Enable idle sleep” so I assume that might be working OK, though I haven’t bothered to test it.
I’m using an 11″ C2D Macbook Air, and I got the same results with a fresh install of Lion as well as an upgraded Lion from Snow Leopard.
Is InsomniaX GPL’d or something similar? Is the source code available for v2? I’d love to see the source, partly for education, and partly for improving and extending it (e.g. with AppleScript commands).
Works on a MacBook Pro 4,1 with Lion. However, it only works with the native display. When I hook up an external monitor, InsomniaX no longer functions.
I have several devices hooked up to my HDTV, including my MacBook Pro. Before Lion, I could successfully use InsomniaX to keep my MacBook awake when I switched HDMI inputs.
With 2.0 the MacBook unfortunately goes to sleep.
I really hope you can make InsomniaX work again for this setup!
Thanks for a great product!
Mate your a champion! It works!!! =D
Works on a 2009 MacBook, upgraded to Lion.
Old version does not work on my MBA… I went back to 1.5.x and it sort of works, but funny enough it interrupts my remote desktop connection constantly (I work on medical software that I run throuh a terminal server using RDC on my MBA). I’ll have RDC running full screen and the mac dock running in the background will pop up every few seconds, interrrupting my work on RDC… weird. If I turn off Insomniax (quit), the behavior stops.
So the 2.0 doesnt work (see above) on a MBA, and the old version doesnt work… too bad!! Hope to see a working MBA version soon. Back to SleepLess for now, though its easy to leave that running without the “enable on battery” option Insomniax has.
i am writing here regarding to the Insomnia X, since the old version of it doesn’t work on Lion, therefore i downloaded insomnia 2.0, however i release it misses one important feature, well….atleast for me it is important, it is the ‘load on ac and load on battery’ option, is it possible for you to put back in?
Hi there; thanks for a great piece of software. It works 95% of the time for me.
I am having several issues, though:
1) I was previously using 1.3.5, in which I had used your hotkey function. Until recently, this was working fine, however a few days ago it started behaving strangely: I would press the hotkey to enable Insomnia, and within a minute, it would be disabled.
2) On switching to 2.0, I notice that the hotkey function as well as the Load on AC/Battery functions are gone. I feel that these are vital functions, and am disappointed to see them go. But it is functional.
I am using a late 2008 15-inch Macbook Pro running OS X 10.6.8.
I have followed you instruction uninstalling the new 2.0 version of InsomniaX, but to no avail. Event though the program and all traces of it are gone from my system, when ever i close the lid of my macbook air it does not go to sleep. If I open the lid the screen lights back up instantly and the network connection never drops, so i know it is still awake. Then about 30 seconds later the computer goes to sleep even if the lid is completely open and I am using it.
I have tried everything to fix this including reinstalling and uninstalling the program. Nothing works. Please help me, it is very frustrating.
Have you considered releasing this to the Apple App store? I’d totally pay a little for this gem.
Hi,
I don’t want to rush you, but am just curious.
Have you already a roadmap for releasing InsomniaX 2.1?
When I launch InsomniaX I get the following in the console:
9/9/11 11:31:41.297 AM com.apple.kextd: Kext org.binaervarianz.driver.insomnia not found for client path request.
Needless to say the product does not function at that point.
On first launch I did get this message which seemed to indicate that the kext was installed properly.
9/9/11 11:31:33.808 AM InsomniaX: Latest Insomnia kext is installed at /Users/mrodkey/Library/Application Support/InsomniaX/Insomnia_r7.kext
Thanks for the great application! It’s a must have on every Mac, I think.
Here too it works great on my MacBook Pro 5,1. But one essential thing is not working for me (and apparently for Blake).
When I hook up my laptop to an external monitor, the MacBook goes into the sleep mode. I mainly installed this application to use my MacBook in the closed clamshell mode hooked up on a external monitor without having the laptop plugged with the AC power adaptor.
I really would love it and appreciate it if you could implement this function! It would make me much happier.
Again, thank you for the effort so far!!
Kind regards from The Netherlands
Hi:
Since I just downloaded your program and read a donation is welcome or something from this part of the woods, I appreciate getting your address so that I can send you something. Regrading InsomniaX, the only thing that doesn’t respond is when I click on Open Console, can you explain that, thanks.
Willem
FYI, I managed to get it working. I did a repair permissions on my volume.
I still see this in the Console:
com.apple.kextd: Kext org.binaervarianz.driver.insomnia not found for client path request.
Insomnia is working on my i7 MBP 15 inch almost perfectly. The problem is that “idle lid sleep” only works the very first time I close the lid after activating “idle lid sleep”. So as I open the lid and close it again, the computer goes sleeping – “enable/idle lid sleep” is all the time in idle-position during this.
This means that I have to first enable and then idle lid sleep every single time I’m closing the lid.
Otherwise this little peace of art is working as a dream.
I have found that I disable lid sleep, close the lid and connect with screen sharing and everything works fine. Once I disconnect screen sharing though the MacBook Pro goes straight to sleep and can only be woken by opening the lid.
It works for Lion on my MBA! Hallelujah!!!!
Donating $5
Please add hotkey support!!
Works great on my macbook air, until I load Civ V. After that I always have to cycle Enable/Disable for it to work
Works great when I’m using my MacBook Pro on its own! Unfortunately, InsomniaX doesn’t work when I’m using an external HDMI monitor. Is there any fix for this? Thanks
thank you soo much for the lion update :’D I’M SO HAPPY I’M CRYING!!! AGAIN THANK YOUU
!!!111
Hey man, when i was installing the old icons i noticed that you have the filenames of idlesleep and lidsleep reversed, so you see the idlesleep icon when you disable lidsleep
Doesn’t matter much but just wanted to let you know
donated $2. not a lot of money but u deserve it. plus if everyone donates this amount its awesome for you.
Thank you, thank you, thank youuu! I’ve been searching for a version that works for soooo long, it finally works! /Mac OS X Lion 10.7.1
HOTKEY!!! please please please implement it again!
Hello, first of all. The best freeware for mac ever! That’s my most used mini program. AWESOME!
It’s just a small problem. When I close my lid, the light is going off for 6 seconds and then it’s going on again… Do you know, how to solve?
(the lid sleep is enabled, of course)
Hello. I installed 1.3.5 on Lion from Macupdate before discovering 2.0 was available. When using 1.3.5 I noticed that I could enable Insomnia, but when I tried to disable it, nothing happened (the prompt in the menu bar remained as “disable insomnia”). Now it seems my Macbook (Pro 2009) is not sleeping after the specified inactivity interval in energy saver preferences (I am assuming the top slider in energy saver preferences is the time interval the computer should wait after the last human interaction with it before it goes to sleep). I have quit InsomniaX from the menu bar and restarted my computer but the issue remains.
My display does sleep after the specified inactivity interval and my computer does sleep when I close the lid, it is only the computer-sleep-after-inactive-period that is not working properly. Can someone please advise how to resolve this? Thanks.
Hey,
I have the new generation Macbook Air, strangely it works great for me. Although I am confused, what’s the difference between “lid sleep” and “idle sleep”?
Great work, love this app, absolutely beautiful and practical. Used this before on my previous generation Macbook Air and love the updated icon – THANK YOU!
Good app which works partially for me. I can close the lid and the machine does not sleep, but after a few hours the machine then goes to sleep – a little too unreliable.
Thanks a lot, now I can listen to music in school with the lid down, and without having some classmate turning down the lid to interrupt me.
Thanks! Aztoz
Man, it’s a real bummer that the Preferences feature from 1.3.5 is missing. Plus, it seems to “know” when I close the lid, when I’m using an external monitor.
Sadly, 1.3.5 doesn’t work on Lion =/
Awesome program. I have new 13″ macbook air, with Intel Core i5, using Lion 10.7.1. I frequently move between rooms at work, and can do so with the lid closed – retaining the integrity of my RDP session to my work server. No having to log in again after closing the lid!!
InsomniaX 2.0 DOES work with this hardware. Click on the crescent moon icon, and the drop down menu must display “Enable Lid Sleep”, and “Enable Idle Sleep” for sleep to be disabled. I found myself confused by the labels – intuitively I’d expect the menus to say the opposite. Maybe a lot of noobs like myself are just as confused, and think it “isn’t” working for them.
Hello there!
I just thought I’d chime in and put my vote down for restoring the hotkey functionality (I looked far and wide for a way to associate a shortcut to a menubar app command and apparently that is not possible, not even applescript or automator allow for it!) and also, to a lesser extent, restoring the old icons (agree with other people here, they were much clearer and easy to spot!).
Other than that this is one awesome app and much, much kudos to you my friend! THANK YOU!
This just doesn’t work on Lion. if i have music playing and close the lid, it stops and sleeps. I’m using a MBP that is only a year old.
@ HUGSaLOT
You must be doing something wrong. Check the comments above, other people reported issues and then wrote back giving hints on how they fixed it. You’ll probably find one that works for you too.
Copied it to application folder, double-click to launch. But app does not run
Any help guys?
Hi All
Just wondering if anyone else has an issue with 2.0 on lion whereby it keeps throwing up the Accept conditions dialog box? I’ve tried on a Leopard to Lion upgrade, and a brand new Lion install (From USB). Both are the same. When it launches it throws up the dialog box. Sometimes, it doesn’t seem to allow you to click Accept. After reboot, when it starts I get the dialogue. And when I eventually get it to take the Accept button, it doeskin launch.
Any ideas?
Ken
Sorry, I meant to say the Agree button on the Insomnia Readme dialog (not the Accept button)
Ok, guys I got it to work. Only thing I’m stuck on now is getting it to have Lid Sleep disabled on boot. It loads fine, but I have to disable lid sleep every time I boot. Is this by design? The old version would retain the settings on boot.
finally got it to run.
but “Disable Lid Sleep” does not work
works perfectly to prevent lid sleep on a macbook air 1.6 Ghz Core 2 Duo 4GB Ram 128GB SSD, running Lion 10.7.2
bravo
Tim
Just tried on my 15″ MBP running lion and works great! I would just like to know what is the “disable idle sleep” function used for?
Any idea when/if the MacBook Air’s going to be supported. Used to use InsomniaX every day prior to Lion now I just keep checking this page daily. Just thought I’d let you know there’s a demand for it.
Hey!
Thanks a lot! – This works with no problem in my MBP 13”, media 2009
I got Lion (10.7.2) – Also I see, you made it turn off the screen when the lid is closed! .. Thats nice! and a really needed function (compared to the old version, which didn’t)
Keep up the good work!
~ Morten
it didn’t work when i upgraded to lion from snow leopard. then i reformatted to refresh lion and reinstalled insomniax and now it worked.
works great on the new macbook air. You’re the man!
How do I uninstall the first InsomniaX?
What I should to do?
Hi ! I used this app on my first MacBook, and it was great (loved the hype sounds :p) ! But i just downloaded this new version of InsomniaX, and now my mac won’t go in sleep, whatever i choose in insomniaX menu… It always stays awake.
Even after unistalling insomniaX completely (With AppCleaner)
I have some crash logs too, but not KP as i have read in this post…
Please help me ! My mac can’t go in sleep
I’m using a MacBook Pro 17″ middle 2010 and Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2
is there a method for getting insomniax running from startup i.e before login?
I have a problem! When i close the lid, it seems fine, but my monitor shuts down after 8 or 9 seconds! Help!
Can’t seem to get it to work with Lion, a terminal popup or something showed up while trying to disable lid sleep, saying something about r7 kytext or something like that.
It would be much appreciated if a fix could be recommended, or at least the directions to remove it cleanly?
Thanks!
J
I am also needing insomnia to differentiate between being on AC power and battery so that I can have it go to sleep when closing the lid while on battery. A previous version had an “enable on ac” option… but this one doesn’t. I can’t exactly use the older one that doesn’t work on OS X Lion.
I second that ray…my main use of this utility relies on ac/battery differentiation.
Sleep Display: Turns back on after 2 seconds. Snow Leopard fully up to date on a 17″ 2011 MBP with default Energy Saver settings. Toggled “wake for network” just to check. Same results– Just torrenting in the background and nothing else but the normal background system processes. I also have a bluetooth Magic Mouse but disconnected it and it’s still doing the same thing. I have Disable Lid Sleep and Disable Idle Sleep as well as Start on Login. Please fix!
Thank you!
On a 17″ MacBook Pro. Running latest updates of Lion. When I run the latest 2 version it works great, HOWEVER, when I shutdown the computer the screen goes gray and has the spinning scroller and never shuts down. Have to hold the power button to shut it down now.
I don’t understand why there is no obvious download link for version 2.0 on this page http://semaja2.net/insomniaxinfo
Love this program. Spent many hours with Apple Support. I travel all over the world and need to access my Computer via WiFi. My Computer now does not go to sleep and I can excess all my data from my computer to my Iphone.
Many thanks you saved me. I would be willing to pay for this program it’s that good. I am using Lion and I seem to have NO trouble.
Hi,
I have brand new 2011 MBP 15″ with Lion 10.7.2 and when I try to Disable Lid Sleep in InsomniaX just error appears.
The system extension “/Users/******/Library/Application Support/InsomniaX/Insomnia_r7.kext” was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product’s vendor for an update.
Is there something I can do about this ? Or is it just incompatibility/bug. If it is, are you about to fix it ?
Thanks.
I have been looking for this for a while
Thank you so much!
Hi.
I was searching for an app like this awhile!
Thank you so much for this excellent job.
One little thing that didn’t work at all:
1. I plug my external monitor
2. Disable Lid Sleep
3. Get the lid closed
4. My external monitor goes to show as my principal screen, but it only stays for 1 second or 2 seconds. After this my MBA goes to sleep.
My dream is get my MBA running with the lid closed, an external monitor plugged AND no AC adaptor!
With no InsomniaX installed I already got all these things, but always with the Ac adaptor connected.
Am I doing something wrong?
Getting this, of course I’ll give a donation. It’s an amazing app.
Thank you
I forgot… I’m using a new MBA model, i5, 4gb ram and Lion OSX.
Thank you so much!! I just sent a donation!!
I am having the same issue as Pedro Miszewski. I am running a late 2011 15-inch MBP, 2.2 GHz i7, 4GB RAM and Lion OS X. Please help?
im running lion 10.7.2 got the 2.3 GHz i7, 8G of ram. i downloaded this hoping i could use this as a replacement for my iPod that recently crapped out on me. i put a SSD in this machine so i have no moving parts besides the cd but i rarely use that. everything works fine besides the “disable lid sleep” that is the only function hat will not work for some reason. any ideas why? i have searched for a solution all day and still nothing has helped!
Just installed on late 2011 i7 MBP 2.2ghz 15.4″ OSX Lion 10.7.2 / Darwin 11.2.0. I actually had to run install twice. First time aborted without any dialog. Second time installed fine. All functions work properly.

If you are doing CPU intensive work DO NOT close the lid completely. CPU cooling exits upward through the keyboard. You are better off to leave the lid open and disable sleep mode temporarily. If you are just downloading a large file, close lid until the apple light turns off. That should allow adequate airflow gap between lid and keyboard. I love my MBP! Been a linux user for 12 years so the GUI and backend were familiar to me.
Obrigado cara, está funcionando perfeitamente…
Thanks man, is working perfectly …
i installed insomniax in snow leopard and my machine doens’t restart… this what happened … Installed insomniax on latest version snow leopard … Enabled insomnia putted enabled sleep monitor … Closed the lid … So far so good the mac stayed on and working ok … When I opened the lid 5 hours latter mac turns off and then I clicked to power on the system and it doesn’t reboot only appears the apple symbol and the message please turn off your computer clicking the power button and gets on this all the time I can’t restart the osx… Help needed
I just downloaded 2.0 and am running it on my 2011 15″ MBP with Lion 10.7.3. I clicked on the “Disable Lid Sleep” option, then closed the lid and it still goes to sleep when running off the battery. So it’s not working for me.
Update on my previous comment:
If my MBP is running on battery while connected to an external monitor, then InsomniaX fails to prevent it from going to sleep when I close the lid. But InsomniaX works fine if my MBP isn’t connected to an external monitor. So something about the external monitor causes InsomniaX to not work properly.
Dear InsomniaX Genius!
First of all; I owe you a lot of Mac happiness, I love your tool and have used it since 2008.
Now that I’m on Lion, I’m missing a beautiful feature of leaving the screen light on, while closing the laptop.. Granted, this is a niche request, but is it possible to let the user choose this in settings?
The reason for my strange preference, is that I’ve just started making cut-out designs for MacBooks, so the light is very desired, even when closed

I’m having the same exact issues as Matt Rodkey. since upgrading to 2.0 and Lion, I had to fix my permissions to get it to run; and unless screen sharing is active, the computer goes to sleep and i have to de-clamshell for it to wake.
GREAT APP! works great in my MBP 13.3 with Lion 10.7.3
EXCELENTE APLICACION! Funciona muy bien en mi MBP 13.3 con Lion 10.7.3

Is it possible to run InsomniaX as a root user without having to log in?
Furthermore, is it possible to reboot with the lid closed and when I open the lid the screen re-enables so that I can access the system if I need to (or SSH/VNC in with the lid closed)?
Semaja2,
Is it possible to add an option to keep the display awake too when the lid is closed? E.g. InsomniaX 2 keeps the Mac awake and the display on even when the lid is closed?
This would be useful to me as the glowing Apple logo on the lid would be a reminded that the Mac is not sleeping, even when the lid is closed.
Thanks, great work
Works Great,
But the apple logo stay on when the lid is close would be very helpfull.
And also to add the possibility to create shortcut as there was on the previously version…
Thanks for the great work Semaja2
Also using the new 2.0 version.
I prefer the old icon, the blue face that opens its eye when activated…
It was easier to see…
I am really missing the keyboard shortcut…
Best Regards
the display should never be left on when the lid is closed, it can cause damage to the screen and other guts of the laptop due to overheating, etc. Personally i love this feature compared to the last version when i always had to hold the dimmer switch til the screen was at its darkest. Kudos!
However one thing that troubles me, why do I have to “disable lid sleep” each time after closing the lid in order for this desired function to persist? Seems to me it should just stay on when requested, or off when requested. Was this intentional? I can’t see the logic.
not working. same problem as castor above. 10.7.4
Works great on MB 15 2011
Had to restart before it started working
Great job! thx
Hi,
I am using it but my macbook retina 15 inch with lion 10.7.4 goes to sleep mode when lid is closed even though i have selected options to Disable lid sleep in insomania and i am using latest version , but it is not working for me.
Can you please suggest what to do to make it work ?
Thanks
Version 1.2.3 not working on my MacBook Pro running lion OSX 1.7.5. When I click on “disable lid sleep” the icon does not change and machine sleeps when lid is closed (i.e.icon does not darken). When I click on “disable idle sleep”, the eye icon darkens.
