InsomniaX : MacBookAir Not Supported

09. Sep 2011 Comments 20 comments

This may come as great disappointment to some, however because I can only test on a MacBookPro (2011) I can not support other platforms fully and this unfortunately means development for the MacBookAir is not possible.

This being said, maybe some code fix will magically fix the MacBookAirs, and if anyone wants the Insomnia code I will email them said code if they have a MacBookAir and are happy to debug it for me.

However as a last resort, if some people are willing to get together to fund raise $800AUD to buy a MacBookAir I will fill in the rest so I can have the hardware to debug on etc.

On a good note, development has continued for InsomniaX 2.1 however implementation of some features have me concerned as trying to make some things simpler may have made it even more confusing… But I do have a new version coming :)

Ummm… It works on my MBA Lion perfectly. I cannot figure out how to not auto activate though. Lid sleep always loads disabled. Great program though.

Working quite nicely on my MBA i5 with Lion. Sure hope 2.1 has Hotkey support!! Command+I is like second nature to me now.

Planning on donating again, thanks for InsomniaX!

2011 MBA 13-inch here… InsomiaX working like it’s supposed to. Just really missing an option to allow sleep when closing the lid if running on battery.

Waiting for InsomniaX 2.1 – hotkey is my key to be happy :)

I’ll donate just when 2.1 will be available to download.

I think I can tell its not exactly supported now. Depending on how long its been since a restart, I have to cycle the enable / disable lid sleep for it to work. It will either stay on when it shouldn’t or sleep when it shouldn’t.

    How are those donations coming?

Awesome program. I have a new 13″ macbook air, with Intel Core i5, using Lion 10.7.1. I frequently move between rooms at work, and can do so with the lid closed – retaining the integrity of my RDP session to my work server. No having to log in again after closing the lid!!

InsomniaX 2.0 DOES work with this hardware. Click on the crescent moon icon, and the drop down menu must display “Enable Lid Sleep”, and “Enable Idle Sleep” for sleep to be disabled. I found myself confused by the labels – intuitively I’d expect the menus to say the opposite. Maybe a lot of noobs like myself are just as confused, and think it “isn’t” working for them.

I still can’t get InsomiaX 2.0 to work on my i7 Macbook Pro that originally shipped with Snow Leopard, and upgraded to Lion with a in-place upgrade via disc, not a clean install.

It’s only a year old, runs fine, Previous version of this app worked flawlessly. but v2.0 still allows my MBP to go into sleep mode when i close the lid.

Also the menus seem confusing to me. If the menu says “Enable Lid Sleep” wouldn’t that mean that it WILL goto sleep when i close the lid? Well in my case it dosen’t matter what that menu item says. if it says Enable or disable lid sleep, my mac sleeps when i close the lid,

I have 2 MBA’s 11, and 13 inch. I would be more than willing to look over the code and provide any diff’s required to make it compatible.

Have it running on a MBA 13″ 2nd Gen and it works perfectly. Such a terrific app!

I’m using insomniax 2.0 in my MBA 2011. Disabled LID Sleep works at least in regular instances.

Do you know how can i permanent disable the LID Sleep? I don’t want to select the option after every reboot.

Updated to Lion finally. Looks like my previous problem of having the display turn back on after display sleep is resolved. Was running updated Snow Leopard before. I was having it disable lid and idle sleep which I think was causing it to kick back on shortly after I slept the display through InsomniaX. Would have liked that to work properly in Snow Leopard but it seems to be behaving as expected now.

putting the code up on github is no option? (not being familiar with git is no argument, though)
    would solve you some problems…
