InsomniaX 2.1.0 Released

19. Aug 2012 Comments 14 comments

To ease those many requests, I have updated InsomniaX with some of the most requested features these are

  • Implemented shortcut keys for Lid and Idle Sleep
  • Implemented update system again
  • Implemented sound effects for Lid and Idle Sleep
  • Bundles are now code signed for Mountain Lion
  • InsomniaX 2.1.0 is built for Mountain Lion
  • InsomniaX is now using net.semaja2.insomniax this will mean all settings are wiped on upgrade
  • Insomnia is now using net.semaja2.kext.insomnia as its identifier to avoid conflicts
  • CPU Safety limit has been raised to 100c before Lid Sleep is renabled, to change this enter the following command “defaults write net.semaja2.insomniax CPUSafetyTemp xxx”

I would like to modify the status bar icon to better reflect if Lid and/or Idle Sleep has been Disabled/Enabled, if anyone would like to send me some new designs please let me know :) I am thinking of adding a separate shape to the Moon already in use to indicate Idle sleep

A future feature to be implemented is a better repair system for the Insomnia KEXT, however in the mean time below are the steps for a reinstall/repair of InsomniaX and its features

  • Reboot Mac OSX
  • Quit InsomniaX if open
  • Enter in Terminal the following command : defaults delete net.semaja2.insomniax
  • Enter in Terminal the following command : rm -rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/InsomniaX
  • Delete InsomniaX from the Applications folder
  • Download and copy InsomniaX to the Applications folder and execute

I am aware some users are having issues with PowerNap enabled machines, I will try to obtain a machine to test this on but my only test machine at this stage is a early 2011 MacBookPro 15″ running Mountain Lion

    Thanks for the update!

I installed on MBP 2011, ML. Unfortunately “Disable Lid Sleep” does nothing :( 2.01 worked ok in this regard.

I will be happy to supply more info.

I am having the same problem as psyd. I am able to Enable/Disable lid sleep, however when I click “Disable Lid Sleep” nothing happens.

Sorry, “Disable/Enable IDLE sleep” works for me, however “Disable/Enable Lid Sleep” does not. Apparently I need more sleep!!

    I guess you’re dropping Lion support…
The Mac I use this on can’t go up to 10.8 :-(
Is 2.01 the last 10.7 compatible version?

Dude, the Insomina.kext. located in ~/Library/Application Data/InsomniaX is broken, there is no binary inside it (the MacOS folder), only info.plist and the Resources folder. I think this is the cause for all 2.1 problems on ML.

And here’s my terminal attempt to load it:

    InsomniaX philip$ sudo kextutil ./Insomnia.kext/
No kernel file specified, using ‘/mach_kernel’
./Insomnia.kext is invalid; can’t resolve dependencies.
./Insomnia.kext is invalid; can’t resolve dependencies.
./Insomnia.kext is invalid; can’t resolve dependencies.
    Diagnostics for ./Insomnia.kext:
    Validation Failures:
Kext has a CFBundleExecutable property but the executable can’t be found:
    Insomnia

    Warnings:
Personality CFBundleIdentifier differs from containing kext’s (not necessarily a mistake, but rarely done):
    Insomnia
Personality CFBundleIdentifier names a kext that can’t be found:
    ‘Insomnia’ -> ‘org.binaervarianz.driver.insomnia’

    InsomniaX philip$

Wow, at least you could make Lion-compatible version with shortcut keys feature, nothing else.

Thanks for your feedback guys, it appears by using the old Insomnia.kext file name which I hoped would be deleted by now has caused a few conflicts

I have published a 2.1.1 update, which brings back support for Lion, and fixes the issues with the Insomnia.kext hopefully :)

Tried the reversion. Lid sleep disable still doesn’t work for me in Intel PB running 10.7.4. Happy to send console excerpts but I am still looking for the mysterious “help desk” where support requests should be routed.

    Best,

    Bob

    Same as CerteZ. 10.8.3

I also can’t get InsomniaX to work on OS X 10.8.3. I’ve disabled lib sleep but Mac still slips when lid is closed and external display is unplugged.
