8-Bitty Controller for Mac OSX

Introducing the best alternative to ControllerMate for using the amazing ThinkGeek iCade 8-Bitty Controller on a Mac

To reduce the bandwidth and spam to mobile devices the iCade was designed to only send one key for each event rather then holding down the key for the entire event, for example pressing the B button on the 8-Bitty sends the “W” key when you press the button and sends the “E” key when you release the key.

Whilst this method works great with iCade compatible software it wont work with emulation software on a Mac such as Nestopia, and with that being said here it is the amazing “8-Bitty Controller” which will convert the iCade events into standard keyboard events

8-Bitty Controller Key Mappings
To keep things simple, each 8-Bitty button is mapped to the obvious keyboard key, for example the A button is the A key on the keyboard

How to use:
Simply open up “8-Bitty Controller” and start using your “8-Bitty Controller” with your favourite emulator or game! (after you map the keys to the right keys in your emulator/game)

Download:
8-Bitty Controller v0.1b

Notes:

  • This is the very first version and may contain some bugs, the application can only operate when running so if any issues are present simply quit the application and they should disappear.
  • This version will expire on the 31st of January 2013, but there will be another version released before then
  • Unfortunately in this version we can only support one controller at a time, but we will be hoping to add support for multiple controllers

Thanks so much for this, it’s great.

Thanks for making this! Minor bug im noticing, pushing start on the 8-bitty causes the program to keep sending the last pressed keystroke to the computer – only way to fix is to exit out of the program and reload.

Amazing! (although I haven’t downloaded or tried the software) Can you make this compatible with Windows OS?
