MultiAlarm v3.0.2 Beta Ready

22. May 2006 Comments 7 comments

Well after a long time of scratching my head trying to work out why the prefrence files wouldnt work i finally found the bug which lied in the way the bindings of data worked.

So im proud to release Version 3.0.2 of MultiAlarm, This version has all 3 engines inbuilt and are all selectable from the settings, also in side settings is the option to set the sensitivity of the alarm which of course now saves its settings.

MultiAlarm now also uses keychain to have a secure disarm, so if a theif moves your laptop it will continue to sound even if it is back at its orginal coordinates until you enter the password.

Of course please tell me of any bugs you encounter or any thing that you would like changed before it is released.

DOWNLOAD — PLEASE READ INSTRUCTIONS BELOW BEFORE USING

To install the keychain item simply execute the “Keychain Installer” application which is included it will setup the MultiAlarm item with the default password of “Password”

After you have installed the keychain item run MultiAlarm and then goto the settings tab under the about window, the defaults are setup for a ibook/powerbook

Unfortuantly due to the introduction of the password system there is no way to use salling clicker or Remote Control with this version, i hope to fix this soon though

We have a reported bug in the keychain system, if you wish to change your password you will have to use a work around until i can fix the bug.

    Goto Applications>Utilities
    Open “Keychain Utilities”
    Find the item “MultiAlarm”
Set the password to what ever you want

Hi, good job! One thing, though: when you try and quit MultiAlarm from the menu, it asks for your password. However, if you CTRL+click on the dock icon and choose “quit” it exits without asking for a password!

it would be great to have a silent alarm - one that does not trigger the thief to uninstall the software, while in the background one keeps getting information about the laptop’s whereabouts.
    suggestions:

    * completely invisible alarms: no screen locks or background images etcetera.

    * startup script that always sends information, UNLESS when the software is shut down and disarmed properly); this way even after a forced-shutdown you receive information)

    * useful and yet simple information is an isight photo and the results of whatismyip.com to an email address and/or ftp or so.

There is already such service being built, a ETA on the release is not available.
