This new version brings with it a massive change list which will be explained below.
The biggest bug which was in the last version was that the MacBook motion engine was not included, well this bug is fixed and this version should work on all MacBooks
One of the most helpful add-on which came with this version was error messages when something goes wrong, this will enable me to know exactly where the error occurred and fix it. Along with this MultiAlarm will also check if your machine is “supposed” to have a SMS sensor.
We have also added in external alert features, these are “External AppleScript Execution” and a “Email System” with the new Email System you will be able to email you phones email address and be notified by SMS (Only if set up by your mobile company, May cost money)
The keychain system which is used for the passwords is now slipstreamed and will be easier on the end user (Note: Every time you change your password you will need to authorize MultiAlarm to access the item again)
Also as a little extra gift i have added a screen lock feature so you can lock you screen when you walk away, This feature will work on all Macs (Note: You can not lock screen when alarm is armed nor can you arm the alarm when the screen is locked)
Version 3.1
Included error codes to help diagnose problems
Cleaned code
Added detection to check for SMS
Added scripting ability
Alarm will error better if motion can not be found
Minor touch ups in code to help end user have more slipstream experience
Keychain is now slipstreamed into MultiAlarm
Cleaner graphics used
Lower memory foot print then previous versions
Added email system
Added Screen Lock
Fixed bug with MacBooks

well, I tried for my powerbook. but after arming it, I tested to steal. then alarm came out. put password. it didn’t work. window poped out to need password. well, I did. you must fix this problem. so I had forced to quit it.
did you try to change the password like it says in the read me, all you have to do is goto preferences and change the password and see if it works then
Everyone: PLEASE READ THE READ ME
Hi! I have a PowerBook Ti 1GHz. I downloaded your app and try to run it as you said to do it. But: when I started the app an error message appear: “Error: could not load SMS info code: 80″.
After this I configure the app in Preferences, set a password and so on… I restarted the app and arm. Although, when I pick the Mac form the axis, it has done nothing!
First question: Must I have such a kind of sensor?
Second: If I have to have it, where can I find it?
Thanks!
Ciro, MultiAlarm will only work with powerbooks, ibooks and Mac books with a motion sensor built in.
The Motion sensor is actually part of the hardware, not software. Which was added to the lines on January 1, 2005.
And since the TiBook is older… it won’t work.
why did you disable locking the screen? This app is useless to me now because in order to arm the alarm, I have to leave the screen totally unlocked so anyone could just use my macbook. I love this app, but I think you took a step backwards with this release… also, please make the password optional. The way you have it set up, I must type in both my login password and then another password to disarm the alarm. Major pain…..
Let me elaborate:
“Also as a little extra gift i have added a screen lock feature so you can lock you screen when you walk away, This feature will work on all Macs (Note: You can not lock screen when alarm is armed nor can you arm the alarm when the screen is locked)”
What use is this functionality? Ideally you should be able to arm the alarm with the screen locked OR unlocked, either way. Why would I walk away with my screen UNLOCKED?
oh, one more thing… if the alarm sounds and you get the subsequent “enter password to disarm alarm.” dialogue, all you have to do is either force quit the app, or just ctrl-click on it’s dock icon and choose quit. Alarm turns off and app quits…. again, a major step backwards…
Thayne: If the screen was locked while being armed it disabled the alarm becuase of the way the screen lock works
The password option was used because i didnt want to interfer with anything else that wasnt MultiAlarm
If you want say the screen saver activated during the alarm i will add such function, as this is the only way to have a lock that wont stop the alarm(Using a password protected screensaver)
Hi,
Amazing software! However, minor bug presents. I installed it on my ibook g4.
1. It works find but I can not change password. I went to preferences>general>set password. type in the old default password named “password”. I expected it will give me another window asking me putting in new password. Nothing happen~
2. There is a line in red color say “Please restart MultiAlarm for changes to apply” always there. It just didn’t go off after i shut off MultiAlarm and restarted it.
Hi dada,
Thanks for the comment, if you could file a support request for that password problem that would be great as i would love to find out whats causing that trouble.
As for that red text, that is there permently to notify the user they need to restart MultiAlarm if they change a setting.(I plan to make it only appear if a setting occours)
It says licensed under GPL. So, where is the source?
This is the sort of thing that the Stallman crowd loves to go nuts over.
The source code is freely available under the MultiAlarm page in the buttons above or on the side. and if that latest source code isnt available people can freely email me for the latest and ill archive it and send it
I think that it would be beautiful if there were an option like:
“if the computer returns to being firm you stop to play”
(I’m sorry for my English, I’m Italian)
by Eikici
… Google translator mistook!
Not “firm” but I would have to say “stop”!!!
So you would like a feature that if the laptop is put back down it stops the alarm?
Thanks for creating MultiAlarm. It’s a great freeware program that I can use in addition to iAlertU or TheftSensor on my MacBook. Both are free and more fully featured at the moment, but MultiAlarm does the trick in a pinch. Several suggestions I’d like to make:
a) allow the file to be moved into a folder nested in the applications folder (i.e. Applications/Motion Alarms, etc.). The program doesn’t work that way right now.
b) Perhaps use a program like “Backdrop” to create a black or white screen behind the MultiAlarm alarm. This way, the computer is inaccessible to thieves. Thanks again!
Hey,
Can someone please help me with getting multialrm working?
I have just done like the “read me” tells but nothing happens when I activate the alarm. I’ve got a PowerBook G4 from Sebtember 05.
I would really like it to work. It’s a cool piece of software!
I know this may be annoying but if people could use the support system it would much nicer for me and help keep the site cleaner.
What i would ask you to do is try the hirespb and powerbook engines, if that fails to work look back in my sites archives for a guide on how to reactivte the SMS sensor in some apple laptops. If all of that fails file a support ticket and ill try to get the problem fixed
Thx for the Proggy!
But let me suggest 2 improvements:
1.The computer should be inaccessible except for the password dialog while the alarm is armed or sounding.
2. One shouldn´t be able to shut the program down while the alarm is sounding.
Without these features it´s rather useless, since neither my work nor my iBook are safe ´till they are implemented…
Keep up the good work!
i’m searching this for mouths!!!
it’s wonderfull… thank you so much!!!
loves
Sorry guys for the late reply,
In the next version i hopefully will have a way to stop a sleep from occuring and i am doing some research on making a backdrop appear behind the password screen (I will include a option for it to be activated before or after the alarm)
